Inca
Trail to Machu Picchu Overview
The classic Inca trail to the Sacred Lost city of Machu
Picchu is the most awe-inspiring trek in South America. The
Machu Picchu to Cusco road was part a network of well-made
roads that connected the Inca cities to their imperial capital,
Cusco.
The Inca trail lies within the boundaries of the Machu Picchu
historical sanctuary, a protected reserve set up by the Peruvian
government in 1981 in order to preserve the natural beauty
and archaeological remnants of the area which are of great
scientific and historic value. It is a spectacular hike though
breathtaking Andean landscape to tropical forest (with many
different species of birds and beautiful orchids) , passing
several magnificent ruins encountered on the path.
This is a challenging trek with incredible views of the surrounding
mountains, with the highest pass at 4200m (13,776’).
The trip culminates at the Sun gate where you have an unforgettable
view of the ruins of Machu Picchu below. Then continue with
a guided tour of the ruins.
Come with us and discover the fabled Lost City of the Incas
as American Explorer, Hiram Bingham, did in 1911.
