Explorations in Atacama will allow you to become acquainted with the multiple aspects of this region: its geography, history, fauna, and geological features, volcanoes and ancient villages. Explorations have been designed to allow for gradual acclimatization to the altitude. Some excursions take place in the vicinity of San Pedro, between 2,500 and 3,000 meters (8,200 and 9,850 feet) above sea level; others are at intermediate levels between 3,000 and 4,500 meters (9,840 and 13,120 feet); and the most demanding reach heights of up to 6,000 meters. (19,680 feet)

Walking, horseback riding or biking, guests can choose from 8 to 10 different options which have been specifically selected according to the weather, guests desires, the duration andits difficulties.

Type Of Rooms at Explora Atacama

Explora Atacama hotel & lodge has 50 comfortable rooms, each designed to maximize silence and privacy. They are tastefully designed with wooden ceilings and floors made of stone and tiles. Each has a small living area, a hydro massage bath and beds designed for deep, pleasurable sleep after a day of exploration. Quitor: The name 'Quitor' derives from the Pukara de Quitor a former pre-Columbian fortress found very close to Alto Atacama. These guestrooms are the closest to the Club House. The view from the private terraces of these guestrooms is on to the garden area of the hotel, with the Cordillera de la Sal in the background. Tulur Room: 16 rooms measuring 33 meters2 (355 feet2), all with views of the Cordillera de la Sal.

Checking in & out:

Check - in is at 3:00 P.M. but can be earlier depending on availability. Early morning arrival to the hotel is recommended. explora will take care of the luggage until room is given.

Check - out: This day is intended to be an exploration day. explora recommends to make air flights reservations leaving Calama after 6:00 P.M. When leaving in the morning for a full exploration day, or when leaving the hotel for an afternoon exploration, explora will take care of the luggage. Checking out must be before noon, but guests can have lunch at the hotel (included in the program).

Getting ThereTake an international flight to Santiago, Chile (SCL), followed by a 2 ½ hour flight from SCL to Calama (CJC). explora will transport guests, via a one hour van ride, to explora EN ATACAMA.

Climate:
In Atacama all months are vibrant. The climate is magnificent throughout the year, with more than 90% of the days being radiant. During winter June, July and August) the average daytime temperature varies between 9ºC (48ºF) and 24ºC (75ºF); days are very pleasant, inviting you to lay in the sun’s corridors.
In summer (January, February and March) the average daytime temperature fluctuates between 13ºC (55ºF) and 25ºC (77ºF), reaching maximums of 32ºC (90ºF): a warmer climate inviting you to a good "siesta" before the evening explorations begin. Between January and March, the so called Altiplanic Winter comes with occasional showers. Altitude San Pedro de Atacama is 2,443 meters (8,015 feet) above sea level. Some of the explorations may take you to over 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) for a short while. If you select to go up the peaks you will find yourself between 5,500 and 6,100 meters (18,044 and 20,013 feet).
