The surroundings, Pukara de Quitor, a massive fortress dating back to the XII century, the San Pedro river and the Cordillera de la Sal, in the Catarpe oasis, only 3 kilometers away from the village of San Pedro. Architecturally it both represents the human ability to build
structures that become one with its surroundings and also manages to defy the ravages of millennia.
32 spacious rooms each with its own private terrace. The decoration is simple yet elegant
with local crafts and the gardens are filled with native plants and locally crafted art. Six
outdoor pools overlook the beautiful Catarpe Valley. Stones from the surrounding desert
form a wall of privacy for each of the pool. An outdoor bar and dining room in the pool
area gives guests the choice of enjoying a leisure lunch by the water, or an evening
cocktail. SPA options include Finnish sauna, Turkish baths, Scottish showers, indoor and
outdoor hot tubs. The concept for excursions is based on the selection of activities designed for people who love nature and do not require any special physical training or technical abilities. All excursions are graded by type (by vehicle, on foot or bicycle), length (half or full day), and difficulty. Each night guests meet with the guides at the bar to discuss options for the following day.
Type of Rooms
Quitor: The name 'Quitor' derives from the Pukara de Quitor a former pre-Columbian fortress found very close to Alto Atacama. These guestrooms are the closest to the Club House. The view from the private terraces of these guestrooms is on to the garden area of the hotel, with the Cordillera de la Sal in the background.
Catarpe: The name 'Catarpe' derives from the valley in which Alto Atacama is found. These guestrooms are slightly larger than the 'Quitor' with a more private terrace. The private terraces of these guestrooms offer an uninterrupted view out onto the Cordillera de la Sal range and the Catarpe Valley.
Catarpe Superior: The name 'Catarpe' derives from the valley in which Alto Atacama is found. Our most spacious guestrooms, with a king-size bed in the centre of the room. The private terraces of these guestrooms offer an uninterrupted view out onto the Cordillera de la Sal range and the Catarpe Valley.

Check - in is at 3:00 PM but it can be earlier depending on availability.

- Passengers may have in consideration the following recommendations when travelling in altitude: If you have cardiopulmonary problems, high blood pressure or obesity, check with your doctor first / Do not eat heavy food before travelling in altitude, such as meat or fried food / Drinks as much water as possible/ Avoid dehydration / Do not drink too much alcohol.
- We recommend you to take: 20 to 35 lts. Back pack, swimsuit, sandals, several layers of clothe (Capilene, Fleece, Polar), trainers, trekking shoes, trekking trousers, windbreaker, sun block, hat for the sun, sunglasses (UV), Gloves and hat for high altitude excursions, high mountain parkas will be needed in case of a climb up to 5000.
- Type of Rooms: Single room implies room for 1 person occupancy. Double room implies room with 2 guests sharing a double bed full size, queen or king bed, as available at time of check in or hotel category. Twin room implies room with 2 twin/single person beds. Triple room implies a room for 3 person occupancy and may include a rollaway bed. We cannot guarantee any specific bed type in advance.
